It can be easy to forget the “international” in “International Baccalaureate”. But the IB’s cosmopolitan nature is one of its strengths. And few things display that worldliness like the IB World Student Conferences. In these conferences students from all around the world have a chance to meet and work together. One of last year’s World Student Conferences was held in Hong Kong; you can read a student’s account here.
Three universities will host this year’s conferences. Take a look at our roundup below to see which one looks appealing. Then, if you’re interested, check out the IB’s registration page to sign up. Remember that the deadline for Early Bird registration is February 21, so if you want discounted fees you should act now.
1. The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia

The first WSC of 2014 will run from 6-12 July at the University of Queensland. It has the theme of “Empowering Diversity”. Students will take part in discussions and activities about making a difference in their communities.
2. McGill University, Montreal, Canada

McGill University’s WSC will run from 20-25 July. Its theme is “Human Rights for the 21st Century”. Activities and discussions will focus on how to prevent the violation of human rights around the world.
3. University of Bath, UK

This conference lasts from 27 July to 2 August. As it is the last conference of the year, it doesn’t have its own website yet. The theme of the conference will be “Urban Planning: Building the city of the future”.
